  • Bonjour,

    1. Lincoln had many setbacks, but he finally reached the highest office in the land.

    high ( adjectif court ) ==> the +adj-est

    2. Despite his childhood difficulties, Einstein became the most famous scientist the world has ever known.

    famous ( adjectif long ) ==> the most + adjectif

    3. Silicon Valley is the world’s biggest concentration of start-ups and high-tech firms.

    4. If you’re looking for the least expensive products, you should go to a low-cost supermarket.

    Attention piège : l’adjectif « expensive » est un adjectif long. Son superlatif est donc  : the most + adjectif (the most espensive = les plus chers )

    Mais la phrase deviendrais «  If you’re looking for the least expensive products, you should go to a low-cost supermarket. » : ce qui est incorrect au niveau du sens : «  Si vous recherchez les produits les plus chers, vous devriez aller dans un supermarché à bas prix ( low cost ) » ...

    ==> Il faut donc utiliser the least expensive ( = les moins chers )

    5. The country which is the furthest / farthest away from England is New Zealand.

    far ( adjectif irrégulier )==> farthest / furthest

    Si l’on parle d’une distance géographique ( ce qui est le cas ici, il s’agit de la distance géographique entre l’Angleterre et la Nouvelle Zélande ) on peut utiliser farthest ou furthest.
